Cook County Approves Resolution of Solidarity with the Venezuelan People

July 16, 2026 | Chicago, Illinois

This morning, Illinois Venezuelan Alliance (IVA) received the Resolution of Solidarity with the Venezuelan People, an official proclamation approved by the Cook County Board of Commissioners and presented during the Board's official meeting to Luciano Pedota, Interim Executive Director of IVA, in recognition of the humanitarian leadership the organization has demonstrated in response to the emergency caused by the recent earthquakes in Venezuela.

This resolution represents an important institutional acknowledgment of the devastating impact that the June 24 earthquakes have had on millions of Venezuelans and expresses Cook County's solidarity with the families affected by this humanitarian tragedy.

The resolution also recognizes the humanitarian efforts of Illinois Venezuelan Alliance (IVA), Casa Venezuela in Illinois, and Panas en Chicago, organizations that have joined forces to collect food, medicines, medical supplies, and other essential items for communities affected in Venezuela through trusted humanitarian channels.

In addition, the resolution calls upon governments, international organizations, philanthropic institutions, and civil society to continue supporting humanitarian assistance, recovery, and reconstruction efforts in the affected areas.

For IVA, this recognition belongs to our entire community—our volunteers, donors, partners, sister organizations, and every individual who has dedicated their time and effort to bringing hope to those who need it most.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Commissioner Frank J. Aguilar and the members of the Cook County Board of Commissioners for sponsoring and approving this resolution, reaffirming our region's commitment to solidarity, human dignity, and international cooperation.

We remain committed to working with transparency, dedication, and unity to deliver humanitarian aid to Venezuela and support the families affected during this difficult time.

Together, we continue to prove that solidarity knows no borders.
